The Sifan Hassan Story.
Can you believe it’s been a whole year since Sifan Hassan won marathon gold in Paris?
August 11, 2024. It wasn’t just a win—it was a moment. A hijab-wearing, dua-making, refugee-turned-champion moment. One of those rare times when history feels personal.
She fled Ethiopia, found home in the Netherlands, and trained her way into the record books. But through it all—every stride, every setback—Islam was her compass. Her hijab didn’t slow her down; it showed the world that belief and brilliance go hand in hand.
France banned hijabs in sports. So what did Sifan do? She wore hers all the way to the Olympic podium—in Paris. No speeches, no slogans. Just running. Just winning. Just being everything they said she couldn’t be.
Her victory wasn’t loud. It was firm. Quiet strength. Unapologetic faith. A gold medal that whispered: “With hardship comes ease” (Qur’an 94:6).
One year later, her win still speaks. Not just to Muslims. To everyone who’s ever been told they had to choose—between who they are and what they dream of.
Sifan didn’t choose. She embraced both. And she showed us that faith doesn’t hold you back. It carries you forward.
