The call to care for the vulnerable is not merely charity; it is an Amana, a trust placed upon every Muslim by Allah (SWT). Recently, the Sabeel-l-Huda Islamic Society moved to fulfil a part of this profound responsibility by visiting the Almajiri boys in the Gwagwalada community of Abuja.
We sat with dozens of bright-eyed boys who, through no fault of their own, are living on the margins. Their reality is one of worn-out clothes, bare feet, and constant struggle. Our mission was simple: to affirm their inherent dignity.
Our team provided them with new clothes and durable sandals, items that represent more than just covering. These gifts are a tangible expression of Sadaqah (voluntary charity), providing immediate comfort and protection against the harsh elements they face daily. The sheer joy and gratitude on the boys’ faces as they laced up their new sandals were a powerful reminder of the immense impact of small acts of kindness.
While immediate relief addresses the needs of today, our commitment extends to securing their future. We understand that true empowerment requires more than just clothes; it requires stability, education, and opportunity.
At Sabeel-l-Huda, we have set an ambitious but achievable goal, driven by our faith and our responsibility to the community: “To fundamentally resolve the challenges faced by the Almajiri boys in the key Northern part of Nigeria by the year 2030, transitioning them from vulnerability to independence.
This vision is built on the Islamic principle of comprehensive care, ensuring that every child is given the haqq (right) to thrive.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “I and the one who sponsors an orphan will be together in Paradise like this,” (and he indicated with his index and middle fingers). While these boys are not all orphans, they are profoundly vulnerable and require communal sponsorship and care.
The distribution in Gwagwalada was a critical step in this long journey. We invite you to join us in fulfilling this Amana. Your contribution, whether small or large, is an investment in the spiritual and communal future of Nigeria.
Let us work together to ensure that by 2030, these children are not just surviving but flourishing.
Support the Almajiri Empowerment Fund today and help us reach our 2030 goal.
